Most people who visit your site will enter via your home page. It’s important, therefore, to use this page effectively, to present key information regarding the rest of the content and, thereby, to encourage them to explore further. Remember to be nice, concise and precise (or short, sharp and to the point) – it’s the key details that count, as you’ll be able to include as many extra sections and pages as you want (navigated through the drop-down menu at the top of every page).
Key questions you may wish to ask yourself when planning the content of this page include:
What is your web-space about?
Whilst your initial reasons for creating your collaborative web-space is an assignment, to demonstrate your achievement of the M01STH learning objectives, the majority of your readers will have little or no knowledge of the module or the assignment. It is therefore important to briefly explain the context/background to the site.
What is your intervention?
This will, of course, be the key information your readers will wish to know. Your key challenge in this regard will be how to explain the nature of your intervention succinctly, and without using any technical or profession-specific language. Try to avoid the temptation, too, of incorporating explanatory videos, images, etc, on the home page.
What are you hoping to achieve?
It is easy to miss out an explanation that your game or play-form has a key purpose — educational, restorative, life-enhancing, etc — or to incorporate so many potential outcomes into your design that its central purpose is lost (or, at least, is not made clear).
