Why?
As with all postgraduate assignments, it is important to ensure that your justification/rationale is clear throughout. Questions to consider in this regard include:
Why have we selected this particular intervention?
This is the main way in which you can demonstrate your ability to make use of relevant theory, research evidence and your reflections on your own experiences during this module, as the means of
- Developing, “effective strategies for … enhancing the health, performance and/or participation of specific individuals or communities” [learning outcome 1] ; and
- Creating, “innovative interventions to optimise specified clinical or educational outcomes, employing systematically graded and adapted nature-assisted activities” [learning outcome 2].
Be sure to make your justification for your intervention clear throughout your web-space – remember, many of your readers will not work systematically through your site, so may miss this information if it’s all on one page.
Why are we using natural settings, media and/or resources as a core part of our intervention?
Again, this is an opportunity to draw on published research and theory, reflections on your own experiences (whether during this module or in previous practice), and any views expressed by relevant service-users, service-providers, etc. Please remember that you can use a variety of sources for this information (including news articles, videos, etc), if appropriate – not just academic literature.
Why a game and/or play-based intervention?
As you are aware, games and play are often seen by the layperson as suitable only for children. It’s therefore important for you to provide clear, succinct justification for using games & play with your target group. Images and videos are likely to be more effective than text.
For example, the term “serious games” may be more acceptable to many, especially when the use of the terms is explained, as below:
Similarly, clear demonstration that your design is based on validated gamification principles, such as those below, will reassure your audience that your intervention is of value:
