FAQ

When you post to this site, comment or reply to a post for the first time (even if you have posted regularly to another WordPress site, including the one for your M01STH assignment), it will not show up automatically on this page – I will need to view and approve it, first. There are several reasons we chose such a practical assignment for this module. These include:

  1. Reflecting the ethos of the module. The best way for you to be able to demonstrate your achievement of the module learning objectives is to actually apply your learning within the context of practice.
  2. Marketing your abilities. We hope that local services will hear of your work, and wish to find out more about you – thereby raising the profile of social/therapeutic horticulture as an emerging discipline in its own right; and to encourage them to consider allowing other forms of nature-assisted practice within their own service, regardless of disciplinary context.
  1. We hope that the material you produce will provide useful information both for the staff at Riverbank Academy and for other individuals and institutions working with similar service-users to your target group.
  2. If the overall rationale is clear, and you have provided a sound evaluation of it, you will be affording further opportunities for developing the evidence-base for nature-assisted practice.
  3. In future years, other students enrolling on this course may decide to build on your foundation, using this assignment as the basis for their M25HLS dissertation.

In order to allow you to demonstrate the flexible nature of nature-assisted practice  in developing effective and sustainable interventions, there will be two components to the assignment:

  1. A core collaborative component (the presentation of the practical intervention you have designed); and
  2. A supporting component, combining both collaborative and individual elements, evaluating the status of your intervention as presented. This is likely to include your own reflections and ‘case notes’ from engaging in the sessions at Rough Close – both the introductory sessions, and those where you took a lead.

Therefore, most of the content of the webspace will be the product of collaborative activity. However, you will only receive one, individual mark for the module assignment, which will reflect the evidence of clear division of labour in planning & developing both the intervention and the website. Consequently,  however, even if the intervention alone is not of a sufficient standard to achieve a pass, it is still possible for you to pass the assignment overall by producing a strong evaluation – both individually and as a group – of what you designed.
